If you hear laughter from my chambers
Let me assure you: I do not laugh
There are other things
That sound much like laughter
But are far from it
And certain kinds of kisses
Are better suited to a bier
My heart – may only burn in fire
I do not know if I will ever be
Able to stand
the touch of a man
I pray instead for a ghost
Devoid of hot blood
And scentless
Sexless
Or else knock me senseless
And in darkness take
What little there is
Not already savaged by wild beasts
